Keira Knightley channels a Muse for Chanel

It's been a long association between British actress Keira Knightley and Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle scent. Today the spring 2011 advertising campaign came out and it's a closely shot picture of Miss Knightley, her hair filling the parts of the frame that her face and the parfum bottle do not. And it's oddly the hair that we find most striking as it left us doing something of a double-take as we assumed that it was model-of-the-moment Arizona Muse our eyes were moving over. It's not, but what it is, as charted through the progression of an evolving advertising campaign, is proof that short, textured hair is very much the statement of the season and a dominant part of 2011's hairstyle trends.

Visual Stunner: Fashion & Music

Sexy Kitten 101: A la Bridget Bardot

Soft, voluminous, tousled hair that screams 60s sex kitten; if ever there was a sexier style, I know it not and so it's without further commentary that I draw your attention to this editorial featuring Linsday Lullman. Not just perfect picture inspiration, but with useful styling notes as well, if achieving Bardot hair is your eternal quest you should definitely view the full shoot after the jump.

Beautiful Complexity

As 2011 hair trends, braids and plaits can be worn in a variety of ways. But if you want to really get creative, this is one style to try. Notice the way the braid intertwines and curtails into a natural, unbinded ending; to achieve this you must start out with some wave or curl already in the hair.

A Careless Cut

The bob with fringe is a style we continue to see as we move into 2011's hair trends. Model Drew Phelps has a rocking example of the style, peroxide blonde and carelessly tousled, perfect inspiration for giving your bob a bed-hair makeover.

A time-travelling Katy Perry

David LaChapelle is well known for his saturated, glamorous, often dream-like photography... So could there be a more perfect subject for his lens than popette Katy Perry? Shooting a campaign for hair styling brand ghd meant there was always going to be some element of fantasy involved, and LaChapelle doesn't disappoint. Katy is a kind of uber-glamorous modern day Sleeping Beauty, waking up in three different iconic eras of style: 50s glamour, 70s boho chic and 80s new wave (with hair styled, of course, to match).
